This looks like it could be some kind of smartweed (genus Polygonum).

I believe you are right. Are smartweeds like smart phones?
If you’re at a pond or a marsh you’re more likely to see a smartweed than a smart phone, and no monthly fee or contract is ever required.
If you see me at a pond or a marsh, you will see both.
