for cabin fever, the winter doldrums, and the oh no another foot of snow in forecast for this weekend blues, by going to see orchids. This one was pretty in purple.
My Orchid

I wanted to show the orchid that I did get, although the combination of very little available light and a point & shoot did not make for a technically good shot. It now resides in my office, since sadly I spend more waking hours in that room than any other room.
Lady Slippers

The state flower of Minnesota is the rare Showy Lady Slipper, that one can occasionally find while walking in the woods. When I saw these Lady Slipper orchids it brought back memories, until I looked inside. This is a case where something can be beautiful and ugly at the same time.

I think this was my favorite orchid. I love the colors, the large petals and soft shapes.
Below for a little contrast, my search continues for the best ice lace. This one looks like a monster with a lot of drool to me.

My local nursery is having an orchid festival. I find them very hard to grow, but there is something so beautiful about orchids even without color. I need to find a chunk of time and ask permission to shoot in the nursery with my dslr and macro rather than rushing & sneaking around with my p&s.
