Stripped Bare

The trunk of the tree with the buds I posted the other day. I was so taken by the buds, I didn’t notice the heart that day. Perhaps someone can identify the tree by its bark for me?

My puppy/dog is now in her adolescence and experiencing a fear period. On dark and windy nights she gets very jumpy about noises including the sound of birch bark flapping against the tree. I can think of a lot of scarier things.

The bark of this tree looked like alligator skin to me. Is it a persimmon tree?
