Bright red catkins from a mystery tree. According to google, it could be a black poplar tree amongst the other poplars with leaves beginning to bud.

On Saturday evening, I was admiring the tiny little yellow flowers on the catkins of my pussy willow tree (above). The next morning the catkins were encapsulated with ice and snow (below). More snow today.

We’ve been lucky without snow this winter – until yesterday. It snowed, then sleeted, then rained, sleeted, and snowed again. Lots of shoveling. My camera isn’t waterproof, so this is part of my birch tree from the porch.

The combination of catkins, blue sky, soft breeze, sunlight, and shadows greeting me when I came home in the still light late afternoon looked like joy to me. Better than the snow covered world we woke up to this morning.
